Turkey's 2025 Health Survey Shows Rising Obesity and Smoking Rates
Turkey's national health survey for 2025, conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), reveals a continued increase in obesity and tobacco use. The share of adults aged 15 and over classified as obese grew from 20.2% in 2022 to 21.8% in 2025; overweight prevalence reached 43.1% among men and 32.2% among women. Daily tobacco consumption rose from 28.3% to 30.1% over the same period, with 42.9% of men and 17.5% of women reporting daily smoking. Physical activity remains low: only 4.1% of men and 2.7% of women meet the World Health Organization’s recommendation of 150‑300 minutes per week. The survey also provides biometric averages: adult men stand at 174.4 cm and weigh 80.7 kg, while women average 161.7 cm in height and 69.5 kg in weight. Health issues reported most frequently in the past year include lower‑back pain (24.3%), hypertension (16.9%) and diabetes (11.9%).
