Tahsildaroğlu cheese recall in Turkey over listeria contamination

The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry halted sales of Tahsildaroğlu ‘Olgunlaştırılmış Klasik Kırık Beyaz Peynir’ after a consumer complaint on 16 June 2026 led to laboratory detection of Listeria monocytogenes in the 290‑625 production batch. The contaminated 400 g packages were removed from market shelves nationwide, seized and destroyed, and the producer was fined administratively. The ministry also announced increased inspection frequency and sampling of other products from the same facility, though no recall was issued for those batches. Health officials warned that listeria poses serious risks to pregnant women, the elderly, immunocompromised and chronic‑ill patients.

The recall was applied across all Turkish retail chains, including locations in Gaziantep, and the incident generated extensive media coverage and public concern about food safety.
