Turkey's AK Party Spokesman Ömer Çelik Denounces EU Parliament Criticism

AK Party deputy chairman and spokesperson Ömer Çelik issued a statement rejecting remarks by some European Parliament members that described Turkey in derogatory terms. Çelik said that “bigoted political language” towards Turkey has no legal standing and that labeling Turkey with a “colonial commissioner” tone is a political shame and an abuse of parliamentary values.

He warned that the European Parliament must take its “disrespectful” statements seriously, defend Turkey’s sovereign rights and refrain from targeting the Turkish cabinet or the justice minister. Çelik also criticized the Parliament’s shift from its historic role as a human‑rights school to what he called “colonial‑style” rhetoric, urging it to sanction European politicians who support what he described as genocide in Gaza.

The remarks reflect ongoing tensions between Turkey and EU institutions over perceived bias and language used in discussions of Turkey’s policies and regional issues.
