Overview
Justice Minister Akın Gürgel’s June 30 visit to Baku cemented judicial cooperation with Azerbaijan and announced a new unit to speed cadastral cases. In early July the AK Party marked its 500th day in office with a deliberation meeting in Kayseri, reviewing the “Turkey Century” vision and launching door‑to‑door canvassing in Iğdır and MP visits to businesses and residents in Istanbul’s Beylikdüzü, Kadıköy and Şişli. On July 6 Gürgel rejected remarks by a European Parliament reporter, emphasizing Turkey’s sovereign, constitutional judiciary, and AK Party General Secretary Eyyüp Kadir İnan announced that Turkey will host a major NATO summit, linking the event to the party’s 25‑year anniversary and recent democratic reforms. CHP deputy Ali Mahir Başarır toured the Black Sea provinces on July 5, denouncing the AK Party’s leadership as “null” and highlighting severe economic distress for retirees. MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli’s 30th anniversary as chair recalled his role in early elections that enabled the AK Party’s long‑term dominance. On July 8 CHP chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu unveiled a manifesto plan to restructure the party, introduce performance assessments for provincial leaders and hold weekly press briefings. The same day AK Party officials met civil‑society groups in Bilecik and Gebze, listening to NGOs and merchants and pledging to incorporate their proposals. At the 36th NATO State and Government Leaders Summit in Ankara, Uşak AK Party provincial chair Himmet Yaşar highlighted the summit as proof of Turkey’s renewed international prestige and strategic importance under President Erdoğan, noting 2,290 new party members in 2026. The following week the party expanded its local outreach, holding meetings in Elazığ to inspect the under‑construction 800‑bed Fırat University Hospital, in Eskişehir to showcase over 400 billion TL of 25‑year investment projects, and in Erzurum to review airport upgrades, tunnel works and new industrial zones.
