Hayati Yazıcı says new Turkish constitution will be put to referendum

AK Party General Chairman Deputy Hayati Yazıcı announced that a new constitution will be drafted with broad parliamentary consensus and then submitted to a national referendum. Speaking at the Western Black Sea Regional Meeting in Abant, Bolu, he recalled that the current constitution has been amended 19 times and stressed the need for a “terror‑free Turkey” legal framework. Parallel discussions are under way on a “çerçeve yasa” that would codify the disarmament and reintegration process for former PKK members, with a draft expected to be presented to parliament in July. The ruling AK Party, alongside coalition partners MHP and DEM Party, are pressing to adopt the law before the parliamentary summer recess, while opposition parties are negotiating its timing. The proposed legislation includes a monitoring and oversight commission involving several ministries, and aims to reinforce national unity and a terror‑free Turkey after the 2016 coup attempt reforms.
