Turkey's Ankara and Istanbul See Rising Water Consumption Amid Heat

Ankara's water authority reported that on 3 July daily water use reached 1.636 million cubic metres, while total reservoir storage stood at 691 million cubic metres – about 47.5 % of capacity. Usable water amounted to 539 million cubic metres (41.4 % of total). Major supply came from the İvedik treatment plant, delivering 1.478 million cubic metres, with additional contributions from Pursaklar and Çubuk.

In Istanbul, the water and sewage administration announced that daily consumption hit a record 3.568 million cubic metres as heat waves intensified. ISKI chief Şafak Başa urged residents to conserve water, noting that a 15 % reduction could preserve enough to fill the Terkos reservoir.

Both agencies highlighted the strain on water resources caused by soaring summer temperatures and called for public savings.
