Turkey's Ankara and Sivas reservoirs reach record-high water levels

In the Turkish capital, Ankara, the water and sewage authority reported that the combined capacity of the city's dams—1.454 billion cubic metres—was at 49.2 % on 10 June 2025, up from 29 % a year earlier. Active usable water increased to roughly 563 million cubic metres, more than double the 233 million measured at the same date in 2024.

In the eastern province of Sivas, the Pusat‑Özen reservoir reached full capacity (100 %) for the first time in 18 years, prompting the release of excess water. Provincial officials highlighted that the overall reservoir fill across Sivas averaged 96 %, a dramatic improvement from the roughly 5 % level recorded at the same dam the previous year. Governor Yılmaz Şimşek said heavy winter snowfall and spring rains helped achieve the 100 % level, underscoring the importance of water‑saving practices.
