Turkey’s Jan‑June 2024 exports hit all‑time high, led by electricity‑electronics and automotive sectors

Turkey’s export performance in the first half of 2024 reached record levels. In the capital, Ankara’s Jan‑June exports rose 27.5 % year‑on‑year to $9.078 billion, the highest for that period, with the United States the top market at $757 million, followed by Slovakia, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and China. The leading export sector was electricity and electronics ($1.020 billion), followed by automotive ($1.115 billion), machinery ($880 million), chemicals ($875 million) and mining products ($791 million). The fastest‑growing segment was ornamental plants (+505 %).

Nationally, total Turkish exports in June hit $24.94 billion, up 21.9 % from a year earlier – the strongest June on record. The automotive industry shipped $3.837 billion in June (‑13 % YoY growth) and $20.8 billion for the Jan‑June period, expanding 4.3 % and accounting for 17.6 % of overall exports. Its supply‑industry sub‑segment reached $1.393 billion (+18 %). Germany remained the biggest automotive market, while exports to France, the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland and other EU states also rose, with eight of the top‑10 markets posting gains.

Other notable figures: defense and aviation exports surpassed $11 billion for the first time; the Ege region recorded $13.587 billion in Jan‑June exports (+3.7 %), driven by İzmir’s $7.162 billion; the East Black Sea area shipped $982 million to 121 countries; Trabzon’s six‑month export total exceeded $752 million; pistachio exports fell to $60.8 million, with Italy the largest buyer.

These data illustrate a broad surge in Turkish trade across multiple sectors and regions.
