Turkey's Borsa Istanbul: 30,000 investors hold 80% of market wealth

New Party MP Özgür Karabat warned that a tiny group of about 30,000 large shareholders controls roughly 80% of the total value on Borsa Istanbul, while the number of retail investors has risen to 6.7 million. He cited Central Registration Agency data showing that these large investors own 10 million TL or more in stock portfolios, representing only 0.46% of all investors but the vast majority of market wealth.

Karabat criticised the recent IPOs that fell below issue prices and accused the economy ministry and the Capital Markets Board of turning a blind eye, calling the situation “an open robbery” that undermines confidence in the Turkish capital market.
