Turkey's Buca Municipality Corruption Probe Results in 42 Arrests
Authorities carried out a coordinated raid on Buca Municipality in Bursa, Turkey, seizing documents and digital files related to municipal tender processes, public fund usage, and financial transactions. The investigation led to the arrests of 42 individuals, including the mayor, Görkem Duman, and several municipal officials accused of accepting bribes from contractors, misusing municipal credit cards and assets, and embezzling salaries and bonuses.
Following the arrests, CHP Izmir provincial chairman Çağatay Güç denounced the proceedings, saying public confidence in the justice system had “fallen to zero” and warned that the scandal could affect upcoming elections. He called for systemic changes and expressed solidarity with those affected by the crackdown.
