Turkey's Central Bank Holds Interest Rate Amid Global Inflation Data

Financial analyst İslam Memiş warned that upcoming economic releases this week—U.S. CPI on Wednesday, the Turkish Central Bank (TCMB) rate decision on Thursday, and the European Central Bank (ECB) policy statement on Friday—could spark significant market volatility. The TCMB’s Policy Committee is set to announce its fourth rate decision of the year on Thursday, keeping the one‑week repo rate at 37% after a pause triggered by heightened geopolitical tensions, especially the U.S.–Israel–Iran conflict, and volatile energy prices.

Memiş highlighted that U.S. inflation figures will heavily influence expectations for the Federal Reserve, while the TCMB’s stance will be crucial for the BIST 100 index, which he sees stabilising between 13,000 and 14,000 points. He also noted that the euro and dollar markets, as well as gold and silver prices, are reacting to the same data streams. The central banks’ messages this week are expected to shape investor sentiment across emerging and developed markets alike.
