Turkey's central bank reports higher foreign reserves and surge in foreign stock buying
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) said its gross foreign exchange reserves increased by $6.387 billion to $59.511 billion as of 19 June, while total reserves rose $5.115 billion to $157.196 billion. Gold reserves fell $1.272 billion to $97.686 billion.
Banking‑sector deposits grew 0.86% to 31.300 trillion lira, with Turkish‑lira deposits up 0.51% and foreign‑currency deposits up 0.46% to $262.208 billion, of which $222.074 billion belongs to resident accounts. Consumer credit for resident customers slipped 0.83% to 6.475 trillion lira.
Foreign investors purchased $465.7 million of Turkish equities—the strongest weekly purchase since mid‑April—and $339.7 million of government bonds. Their equity holdings rose to $42.9 billion and bond positions to $15.1 billion.
