Turkey's CHP faces 4‑day deadline on extraordinary congress demand
The Republican People's Party (CHP) has collected signatures from 833 delegates demanding an extraordinary congress. The signed list was delivered to the party headquarters, where officials spent two hours verifying each signature before submitting the request. Party officials announced that, according to the party constitution, the central organization has a ten‑day period to act; four days remain before the deadline expires.
If the party leadership does not convene the congress within the stipulated time, CHP sources said they will pursue legal action, first filing an injunction in a civil court and, if necessary, continuing an existing case before the Supreme Court. Party leader Özgür Özel has rejected calls to withdraw the demand and will continue field visits and outreach as the deadline approaches.
