Turkey's CHP gathers over 1,000 signatures demanding an extraordinary congress

Party officials of the Republican People's Party (CHP) delivered more than 1,000 wet‑signed signatures to the party headquarters, demanding that an extraordinary congress be convened within the 45‑day period stipulated by law. The signatures, collected by CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir, include 830 delegate signatures from 74 provinces and additional support from legal scholars, indicating broad internal pressure for a rapid leadership decision.

Following a court ruling that temporarily appointed Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as party leader, Kılıçdaroğlu sent a letter to CHP MPs emphasizing the need for unity and discipline, stating that “we have no luxury of grievances or disorder.” He urged members to uphold the party’s principles during the “sensitive and challenging process” and warned that the party would seek legal recourse if the congress is not scheduled within the set timeframe.
