Turkey's CHP Schedules Early Congress as Economic Crisis Deepens

CHP spokesperson Müslim Sarı announced that the Republican People's Party will launch its ordinary congress process in the first week of September, outlining upcoming district and provincial meetings. Sarı warned of a “twin deficit” economy with inflation still high, growth slowing, a current‑account and budget gap, and limited reserves of about $33 billion. He criticized stringent measures against protests surrounding the NATO summit in Ankara and defended citizens' right to demonstrate. The statement also noted disciplinary actions in the party branches of Kayseri and Antalya and mentioned a planned visit to party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

CHP Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu highlighted that Turkey is facing roughly 35 million enforcement cases, underscoring widespread poverty, soaring living costs and a sharp decline in the real purchasing power of the minimum wage. He pointed out that many households depend on low‑value social assistance and called for a change toward a more just and prosperous Turkey.
