Giresun Nears Completion of 145‑Million‑Lira Millet Garden Project

The former Atatürk Stadium site in central Giresun is being transformed into the "Millet Bahçesi" (Millet Garden), a 25‑decare urban park funded with 145 million Turkish lira. The project, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change together with TOKİ, is 95 % finished and slated to open within the next two months.

The park will feature 15,000 m² of green space, running and bicycle tracks, children’s playgrounds, an open‑air parking area, landscaped walkways, thematic gardens, a biological pond, a library, a science centre, a restaurant, cafés and rest zones. AK Party deputy Nazım Elmas highlighted the park’s role as a multifunctional social hub and noted that construction was delayed by the earthquake and the COVID‑19 pandemic, prompting a route change to improve parking safety.

Upon completion, local officials expect the Millet Garden to become Giresun’s largest social‑cultural venue, enhancing the city’s quality of life and providing a new gathering place for residents.
