Turkey's DOA system gathers 33 million beverage containers in 17 days

The Depozito Yönetim Sistemi (DOA) launched on 1 July 2026 has recorded the collection of 33,333,990 beverage containers in its first 17 days. More than 2.3 million citizens have registered with the programme, receiving a 1 TL incentive for each returned item. The five provinces with the highest return volumes are Istanbul (2,760,802), Denizli (1,332,752), Sakarya (1,260,888), Ankara (1,225,795) and Bursa (1,200,501). The system is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and operated by the Turkish Environment Agency across 81 provinces and 973 districts. A pilot in Sakarya began in February 2025; since then it has amassed over 92.5 million containers. Minister Murat Kurum said, “Turkey’s environmental mobilisation is growing; together we protect resources and shape the future.”
