Turkey's Education Ministry urged to extend teachers' exemption deadline
The Ministry of National Education (MEB) launched the high‑school placement (LGS) preference process on 13 July, planning a ten‑business‑day window. Because the 15 July public holiday eliminated one working day, the ministry extended the LGS deadline for students to 27 July to preserve the full schedule.
Teachers who have applied for transfer under the "exemption group"—citing health, family unity or safety reasons—face a different timeline. Their application and approval period ends on 24 July, three days earlier than the student deadline. Educators argue this creates an unequal treatment and have asked the ministry to also move their deadline to 27 July.
The request highlights a broader dispute over how the ministry balances procedural flexibility for students with the needs of teachers during the holiday‑affected period.
