Turkey's Education Union Urges Delay of Surplus Deputy Director Appointments

The Education Union (Eğitim-Bir-Sen) submitted a demand to the Ministry of National Education calling for the appointment decrees of surplus deputy directors (müdür yardımcıları) to be put on hold. The union argues that recent changes – the abolition of the deputy director role and the end of allowing remaining tenure to be completed at another institution – have left many experienced administrators in a "norm kadro fazlası" (surplus) status, forcing them into mandatory selection processes and causing loss of professional rights.

The union warns that these experienced managers are essential for new schools, especially in earthquake‑affected regions, and urges the ministry to redesign the appointment process to reflect the upcoming normative staff structures.
