Turkey's electric SUV market booms as EV registrations near 450,000

Turkey’s electric vehicle market is expanding rapidly, with SUVs emerging as the most popular body style. A recent guide highlights ten best‑selling electric SUVs, led by the domestically produced Togg T10X, which benefits from the country’s widest service network, and the Tesla Model Y, the top‑selling D‑SUV. Other notable models include the Renault Megane E‑Tech, BYD Atto 3, Hyundai IONIQ 5, KGM Torres EVX, MINI Countryman, Opel Frontera, Volvo EX30 and Kia EV9.

Vehicle registration data shows that total car registrations reached 17.78 million, while the number of electric cars grew from 565 in 2015 to 183,776 in 2024 and surged to 436,474 by May 2025, representing about 2.5 % of the fleet. Hybrid registrations also rose sharply, now accounting for 4.6 % of all cars. The surge is linked to expanding charging infrastructure and the market share of the local Togg brand, signalling a strong shift toward greener mobility in Turkey.
