Turkey and Saudi Arabia sign municipal‑housing MoU, advance energy cooperation
Turkey’s Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, held talks in Riyadh with Saudi municipal and housing minister Macid bin Abdullah Al‑Hukail and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud. The meetings resulted in a signed Memorandum of Understanding on municipal and housing sector cooperation.
The parties also reviewed the Hayat Mekke project, agreeing that 25 % of the development could be sold to foreign investors. Kurum presented Turkey’s COP31 agenda, highlighting the “35‑to‑35” global electrification target, renewable‑energy and low‑carbon‑fuel goals, and circular‑economy initiatives. He also briefed the Saudis on the “Asrın İnşa Seferberliği” post‑earthquake reconstruction programme and the push for climate‑resilient cities, stressing collaboration on city planning, infrastructure, digital transformation and smart‑city technologies.
