Turkey's Erdoğan to visit Damascus following high-level talks
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is planning a visit to Damascus following a two-day official trip to Syria. During his visit, Fidan met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani to discuss bilateral relations and regional stability.
Fidan stated that a joint planning group has been established to facilitate professional and rapid progress on all issues between the two nations. The discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Fidan also noted that the integration of all armed elements under a central state structure is essential for Syria’s unity.
Regarding regional dynamics, Fidan identified Israel as a significant obstacle to positive progress in the region. He also commented on the Syrian Turkmen community, describing them as an integral part of Syrian society, and observed signs of renewed normalcy and peace in the streets of Damascus.
