Turkey's Hakan Fidan conducts diplomatic tour in Egypt and Libya

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is conducting a regional tour to strengthen diplomatic and security ties. During his visit to Egypt, Fidan expressed interest in Egypt joining the ‘Makkah Defense Pact’, a mutual defense agreement recently signed between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. While Fidan noted that technical points remain to be resolved, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated that any defense commitment would require careful legal and constitutional review, noting that the Egyptian constitution imposes specific requirements for deploying military forces abroad.

In Libya, Fidan met with various political leaders to discuss national unity and regional stability. In Benghazi, he met with Khalifa Haftar and Saddam Haftar to discuss reconstruction projects and trade. Previously, in Tripoli, he held talks with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi. Fidan emphasized Turkey’s commitment to supporting Libyan sovereignty and international efforts to unify the country’s institutions.
