Turkish farmers await harvest prices amid rising costs and strong yields

In Turkey's key agricultural regions, producers are closely watching upcoming price announcements and harvest outcomes. Hazelnut growers in Zonguldak and the Black Sea area warned that any buying price below 300 TL per kilogram would be unacceptable, stressing the need for the Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi (TMO) to set prices in July. The Marmara cooperative Marmarabirlik expects a harvest exceeding the record set two years ago and urges sector collaboration to prevent market disruptions. In Edirne, recent rains revived sunflower fields, raising hopes for a bountiful season despite low market prices. Yozgat’s lentil harvest has begun, with farmers anticipating yields far above the previous year’s 25 kt due to timely rainfall. In Kayseri’s Yahyalı district, fruit growers report a marked increase in both cultivated and wild fruit yields after a dry previous year. Olive oil producers in Balıkesir warn of abundant harvests colliding with weak export demand, leaving stocks high and prices below production costs. Across these reports, farmers emphasize the need for supportive policies, price stability, and pest management, notably against the parasitic “monster weed” threatening several crops.
