Turkey's hazelnut and vegetable growers cite sharp price drops

Hazelnut producers in Turkey's Black Sea region warned that free‑market prices have fallen to about 150 Turkish lira per unit, far below the 200‑250 lira range they consider viable for export. They attributed the decline to weak overseas demand, high European stock, falling quality, disease and rising production costs, and called for strong state intervention and a price band of 250‑300 lira for the new season.

In southeastern Turkey, market officials in Diyarbakır reported that seasonal conditions have lowered most fruit and vegetable wholesale prices, while the price of dry onions surged from 7‑10 lira to 30‑35 lira per kilogram and potatoes rose from around 9 lira to 25‑30 lira. Transport and labour costs are estimated at 7‑8 lira per kilogram, with retailers expected to apply roughly a 30 % margin.

Both sectors highlight growing concerns among Turkish farmers and traders about profitability and the need for supportive pricing policies.
