Turkey's Hazelnut Prices Rise to 200 TL/kg as Early Harvest Warning Issued

In Giresun on the Black Sea coast, hazelnut producers have begun selling freshly picked green‑husk nuts directly from roadside stalls. Prices have jumped from about 150 TL per kilogram last season to 200 TL this year, while dried‑husk nuts are offered at 350 TL per kilogram. Producer Enver Dikmen explained that he harvests the nuts in the evening and brings them to market the next morning, setting his own price instead of waiting for intermediaries.

Agricultural officials have cautioned growers against harvesting before the official dates. Turkey’s Ziraat Odaları Birliği board member Arslan Soydan warned that early picking reduces both yield and quality, leading to income losses for farmers and higher labor costs. He stressed that the harvest schedule will differ by altitude—coastal, middle, and high‑land zones will have separate dates—so producers should wait for the announced timelines.
