Istanbul's 'Yarısı Bizden' campaign pushes ahead with 233,000 homes under conversion

Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum announced that the "Yarısı Bizden" social‑housing campaign is continuing in Istanbul's 39 districts, with 233,000 homes in the conversion process. Construction is proceeding at 550 units per day across 3,482 sites, involving around 200,000 architects, engineers and workers. Kurum said the programme has already transformed 2,684,000 homes nationwide, half of which are in Istanbul, and highlighted deliveries in the earthquake‑affected provinces: 153,000 homes in Hatay, 79,000 in Malatya, 74,000 in Kahramanmaraş and 43,000 in Adıyaman.

The government aims to complete 500,000 social homes in 81 provinces by 2027, with key hand‑overs slated to start in March 2027. Istanbul will see its first rental social‑housing units handed over in September 2026. A Deposit Management System will launch on 1 July in all 81 provinces, expected to recycle 25 billion packaging units annually and contribute roughly 30 billion Turkish lira to the economy each year.
