Turkey's MIT captures DEAŞ operative Talip Güler

Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) arrested Talip Güler, a DEAŞ member listed under the yellow notice as "Abdüsselam Türki" code, and brought him back to Turkey. Security sources said Güler entered Syria illegally in January 2014 and later acted as a liaison for the group’s “Turkey province” network, coordinating with senior operatives, including his brother Kasım Güler.

Kasım Güler, identified by MIT as the former DEAŞ “Turkey province” head and finance officer, had been captured in a separate operation in June 2021. After that arrest, MIT continued investigations that led to Talip Güler’s apprehension from a conflict zone and his transfer to Turkish authorities. In his statements, Güler detailed his involvement in cross‑border movements, recruitment activities and the group’s planning for operations inside Turkey. MIT said the operation aims to dismantle DEAŞ’s organisational structure targeting Turkey and to prevent further terror plots.

The operation underscores Turkey’s ongoing counter‑terrorism efforts against DEAŞ’s regional network.
