Turkey's May Export Surge to Ukraine Reaches $656.6 million

In May 2024 Turkey’s exports to Ukraine grew by $339.6 million, bringing total shipments to $656.6 million. The increase reflects heightened demand for energy equipment and industrial machinery as Ukraine repairs war‑damaged infrastructure.

The chemical sector led the export basket with $89.1 million, followed by electricity and electronics ($64.3 million), steel ($52.4 million), automotive ($18.1 million) and machinery ($12.1 million). The electricity‑and‑electronics segment recorded the largest year‑on‑year growth, adding $19.7 million. Ankara contributed $398.2 million, Istanbul $152.2 million, Kocaeli $19.4 million, Hatay $17.4 million and Mersin $8.6 million.

Ukraine topped Turkey’s list of export‑growth destinations, ahead of Slovakia, Morocco, Norway and Nigeria. Overall, Turkey’s biggest export markets in the same month remained Germany ($1.5 billion), the United States ($1.2 billion), Italy and the United Kingdom ($1.1 billion each) and Spain ($994.8 million).
