Turkish municipalities intensify mosquito and pest control ahead of summer

Municipal authorities in several Turkish cities have stepped up pesticide spraying to curb mosquitoes and other insects as temperatures rise. The Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality reported continuous operations across all 11 districts, deploying 60 vehicles and 130 staff to treat parks, waterways, and wetlands day and night. In Ankara’s Keçiören district, crews similarly conduct round‑the‑clock spraying in parks, playgrounds and green areas, targeting adult mosquitoes and larval habitats.

Aydın’s Efeler district mayor Anıl Yetişkin clarified that, while a recent court ruling addressed procedural issues, the legal authority for pesticide applications remains with metropolitan municipalities under Law No. 5216. He noted that a proposal to shift full spraying responsibility to the metropolitan level by 1 January 2027 is awaiting council approval. Meanwhile, in Bilecik’s Söğüt district, municipal health teams carry out early‑morning spraying each day, focusing on streets, neighborhoods and public spaces to protect public health.

These coordinated efforts aim to reduce pest populations and improve summer livability for residents across the regions.
