Turkey's Minister Murat Kurum Announces Completion of 455,000 Post‑Earthquake Homes and New Rental Housing Initiative

Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum told the 15th Milli İrade Gathering that Turkey has completed 455,000 housing units in the two‑year "Asrın İnşa Seferberliği" across 11 provinces, involving 200,000 engineers, architects and workers. He highlighted that 1.767 million social homes have been built, providing secure housing for about 7 million citizens.

Kurum also presented the "Yüzyılın Konut" project, which aims to construct 500,000 social homes in 81 provinces, with key hand‑overs slated to begin in March 2027. For the first time, the programme will include rental apartments in Istanbul, scheduled for delivery to low‑income families in September. He compared Turkey's post‑disaster housing capacity to that of the United States and Germany, asserting that Turkey is now a world leader in rapid, quality housing reconstruction after earthquakes and other disasters.
