Turkey's Ministry of National Education details new exam system

The Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB) has released a comprehensive guide regarding the Common Written Examination System (OYSS). Designed to digitize the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of school-wide exams, the system aims to increase educational quality and ensure exam results are aligned with learning outcomes.

Scheduled for implementation in the 2026-2027 academic year, the OYSS will cover specific grades and subjects. In middle schools, it will apply to 5th, 6th, and 7th grades for subjects including Turkish, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Religious Culture, and English. In high schools, it will cover 9th, 10th, and 11th grades for subjects such as Turkish Language and Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Philosophy, and English.

The system emphasizes the use of open-ended and skill-based questions, consistent with the 'Turkey Century Education Model'. While the Ministry provides a pool of skill-based questions, teachers will maintain a decisive role in the process, including preparing a portion of the exam questions and making modifications to selected scenarios.

Following the completion of teacher training in October, the system will be accessible via the Education Information Network (EBA).
