Turkey's Murat Kurum says 7 million citizens receive safe social housing

Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum announced that social housing projects operating in all 81 Turkish provinces have provided disaster‑resistant, safe homes to roughly 7 million people. He highlighted the “First Home” project in Malatya’s İkizce neighbourhood, where a couple, Hanım and Mahmut Dönmez, moved into a newly completed unit.

Kurum said, “Bugüne kadar 81 ilimizde 7 milyona yakın vatandaşımızı sosyal konutlarla afetlere karşı sağlam konutlarına kavuşturduk,” emphasizing the government’s effort to protect citizens from future earthquakes. The ministry continues to build additional social homes across the country, with 1,160 units recently completed in Malatya’s Yeşilyurt district and many more under construction nationwide.
