Turkey's Parliament debates law to strengthen national solidarity

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) has begun deliberations on the ‘Law Proposal on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration,’ a legislative framework aimed at establishing a ‘terror-free Turkey.’ The proposal addresses crimes related to the PKK/KCK terrorist organization, including membership, management, and propaganda, as well as the prevention of terrorism financing.

During the session, CHP Istanbul Deputy Oğuz Kaan Salıcı stated that the move represents a historic step toward removing weapons from the Kurdish issue and initiating dialogue. He emphasized that the process should prevent those who suspend democracy under the pretext of terrorism from having further excuses.

The session saw participation from various political leaders, including MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu. Representatives from multiple parties, including AK Party, İYİ Party, and Yeni Yol Party, expressed varying views on the process, with some thanking leadership for the initiative and others calling for a democratic political order to overcome polarization.
