Turkey's President Erdoğan Pushes Framework Law for 'Terror‑Free Turkey' Initiative

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed graduates at the National Defense University, praising the university’s rapid rise and Turkey’s defence industry self‑sufficiency, noting the role of AI, unmanned systems and cyber capabilities. He linked these advances to a broader security shift and said Turkey aims to become a key player in the evolving international security paradigm.

Following the NATO Leaders Summit, Erdoğan held a press briefing outlining the next phase of the “terror‑free Turkey” process. He announced that a draft framework law will be prepared, with the goal of presenting it to parliament by the third week of July, before the summer recess. The legislation is expected to establish a monitoring board to track the disarmament of terrorist groups and may include provisions for dialogue with former militants. The ruling party’s DEM faction is slated to review the draft and coordinate further steps. Erdoğan reiterated confidence that the law will solidify Turkey’s internal security and support ongoing peace efforts in the eastern and southeastern regions.
