Turkey's public travel expenses hit 12.99 trillion lira in Jan‑June 2026
The Turkish government disclosed that public travel, accommodation and meal costs for domestic and overseas assignments reached 12.99 trillion lira in the first half of 2026. Of this amount, 7.8 trillion lira was spent on temporary assignments and 4.9 trillion lira on permanent duties.
The figures were released despite the Savings Measures Decree, which entered into force in July 2024 to curb public spending. Historical data show a sharp rise in travel expenses over recent years, climbing from 2.5 trillion lira in 2021 to 19 trillion lira in 2024 before falling to the current level in the first six months of 2026.
