Turkey's Public Travel Spending Hits 14.6 Billion Lira in H1 2026

The Turkish public sector spent 14.6 billion Turkish lira on travel, meals and accommodation for domestic and overseas assignments during the January–June 2026 period. The expense level continued the rapid rise seen over recent years, climbing from 2.5 billion lira in 2021 to 28.8 billion lira in 2025, before falling to roughly half that amount in the first half of 2026.

Despite the government's July 2024 savings decree, travel-related costs remained high, prompting criticism that budget‑saving measures have not curbed spending on official trips.
