Turkey's Revenue Administration hits record MTV collections via SMS
Turkey’s Revenue Administration (GİB) has achieved record-breaking Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) collections following the implementation of digital communication strategies, including SMS reminders and AI-supported applications. In July, over 12 million taxpayers paid their second MTV installment on time, resulting in a total collection of 42.8 billion lira for the month. Total MTV collections for the first seven months of the year exceeded 98 billion lira.
Data indicates that taxpayers who received SMS reminders had a 26% higher rate of timely payment compared to those who did not. Similar success was noted in income tax collections, where 75.38% of taxpayers paid their second installment on time after receiving digital notifications.
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek expressed gratitude to taxpayers for their voluntary compliance. Additionally, the administration is providing guidance to over 912,000 new taxpayers through digital channels. Authorities also reminded citizens that the deadline to apply for long-term tax debt restructuring with low interest rates is August 31.
