Turkey's shopping centre visitor index drops as revenue growth lags inflation

The June 2026 figures of the Shopping Centres and Investors Association (AYD) and Akademetre Research show the visitor index fell 3.15% year‑on‑year and 11.53% from May, marking the lowest June performance in four years. Although the per‑square‑metre revenue index rose nominally by 20.9% to 5,249 points, real revenue fell because annual inflation reached 32.11%, resulting in an 8.5% real decline. Economist Fatih Keresteci attributed the weak June performance to the timing of the Eid al‑Adha holiday and reduced consumer purchasing power after stronger May spending.

In July 2026, the seasonally adjusted confidence indexes reported a 1.4% increase in the services sector confidence to 112.0, a 1.6% decline in retail trade confidence to 111.0, and a 0.6% rise in construction confidence to 83.5.
