Turkey's students win 53 medals at World Mathematics Invitational in Tokyo
Turkish pupils competed at the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) 2026 World Final in Tokyo and secured a total of 53 medals: 2 diamonds, 6 gold, 11 silver and 34 bronze, along with 21 Merit Awards. The haul spanned all grades, with notable success in the 6th‑grade category (2 gold, 2 silver, 10 bronze) and top honors in the 11th and 12th grades where diamond medals were awarded.
One participant, Demirel of Kartal Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi, earned a gold medal after qualifying as the world’s third‑best in the pre‑selection round. He described the final as a fast‑paced, timed test and expressed pride in representing Turkey on the international stage.
