Turkey's tea price surge and retail food promos highlight rising household costs

In July 2026 Turkey’s staple dry tea reached record prices, with the Ministry of Agriculture raising the base purchase price by over 37% to 35 TL per kilogram and ÇAYKUR adding a 15% surcharge. The combined effect pushed average retail prices above 300 TL per kilogram, a 45% increase in the first seven months of the year.

At the same time, Turkish discount retailer A101 released its 23 July “Aldın Aldın” catalogue, featuring the Volta EV1 electric vehicle, retro tea makers and a range of kitchen and electronics items, though price details for the EV1 remain pending. ŞOK’s 22 July catalogue highlighted JBL speakers, gaming peripherals and various household goods.

Taste Atlas, a global gastronomy platform, published a list of the world’s most celebrated flatbreads, placing Turkey’s traditional yufka at #10 with a score of 4.18, alongside breads like naan, roti canai and msemen.

Additional articles offered family menu ideas, recipes for using stale bread, and multiple dinner‑menu suggestions, underscoring a broader focus on home cooking and food budgeting in Turkey.
