Turkey's economy exceeds $1.6 trillion, sets $410 billion export target and unveils reforms
Turkey’s Economic Coordination Council (EKK) reported that macro‑economic fundamentals have strengthened, the economy has grown continuously for 23 quarters and unemployment remains in single‑digit figures. The country’s risk‑premium (CDS) has moved closer to pre‑war levels and structural reforms – including the “One‑Stop Office” model for permits – are being expanded.
Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, speaking at the 39th DEİK General Assembly, said Turkey’s economy now exceeds a size of $1.6 trillion and that the nation has achieved an average annual growth of 5.4 % over the past 23 years. Export performance set a new daily record of $2.428 billion on 22 May 2026. The government targets $410 billion in total exports by the end of 2026, with May’s exports already at $111.2 billion and the export‑to‑import coverage ratio reaching 80 %. Defence and construction exports have risen sharply, and Turkish contractors report over $564 billion in global project revenue.
