Turkey's Trade Ministry imposes 8.6 million lira fines on unsafe consumer goods

In the first half of 2026 the Turkish Trade Ministry carried out market surveillance on 4,704 firms that sell consumer products such as textiles, footwear, furniture, stationery, child‑care items, toys and detergents. Inspections gave priority to goods aimed at infants and children. The ministry reported that products posing chemical, physical or mechanical risks, or with non‑compliant labelling, were banned from the market, withdrawn, or accompanied by risk notices. Companies found in violation received a total of 8.6 million lira in administrative fines. Seasonal checks were intensified in June, focusing on summer clothing, sandals, beach towels and water‑sand toys. The ministry stressed its “Zero tolerance for unsafe products” policy and urged consumers to scrutinise product labels and follow official alerts.

The enforcement action demonstrates the ministry’s ongoing effort to protect consumer health and safety, particularly for vulnerable child‑focused items.
