Turkey's Used Car Market Grows Yet Faces Buyer Pause Over High Interest Rates
Tekbaş Otomotiv board member Ege Baş said Turkey’s vehicle fleet surpassed 34.5 million units, with motorcycles accounting for 21.5 % of the total. He highlighted that the expanding fleet creates renewed demand for reliable used‑car inspections and after‑sale services, noting that “the growth of the vehicle park keeps the second‑hand market lively.”
Conversely, Doğukan Taşlıdağ warned that high deposit‑interest rates are pulling potential buyers away from the market. He observed that investors are “preferring interest returns over buying a car,” causing demand to stall as buyers wait for prices to drop further. Taşlıdağ expects the slowdown to persist through the year unless interest rates ease.
