Turkey's Yeni Parti unveils program calling for new‑generation politics

Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced the launch of the Yeni Parti, presenting its charter and a 41‑page programme that calls for a “new generation politics” and criticises the current presidential system. The party’s platform, titled “Program for a New Party for a Common Future”, lists 65 articles covering social‑democratic values such as labour protection, justice, solidarity, human‑rights guarantees, a social state and participatory democracy. It pledges to fully implement the European Union’s Local Government Autonomy criteria, a step that could shift Turkey’s unitary structure toward greater local fiscal and administrative autonomy. In his social‑media message, İmamoğlu urged 86 million citizens and one million volunteers to support the movement, highlighting issues like inflation, unemployment, poverty, external dependence on food and energy, and the need for democratic rights and election integrity. The programme also references Western concepts such as active citizenship, gender equality and pluralist democracy, while invoking the “Turkish Nation” in its rhetoric.
