YENİ Parti draws wave of CHP resignations and raises over 240 million lira in donations FAST-MOVING

The newly founded YENİ Parti, led by Özgür Özel, has triggered a series of mass resignations from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) across several Turkish municipalities. In Bornova, 22 of 24 CHP council members quit, joining or considering YENİ Parti. Similar defections occurred in Osmaniye’s provincial and municipal assemblies and in Seferihisar, where the deputy mayor and multiple councilors left CHP for the new party.

Özel has called on former CHP members and other democrats to abandon “coup‑plotters” and join YENİ Parti, emphasizing a new, participatory political model. Concurrently, the party’s fundraising campaign has amassed more than 240 million Turkish lira (about 240 million ₺) in five days, with over 113,000 donors, as reported by party officials Özgür Ceylan and other spokespeople.

The developments signal a rapid re‑shaping of local political alignments in Turkey and a significant financial inflow for the nascent party.
