Turkish Airlines invests in SAFFA Fund to boost sustainable aviation fuel

Turkish Airlines signed a contract to join SAFFA Fund I LP, an investment vehicle managed by Burnham Sterling Asset Management. The fund, launched in December 2023 with Airbus as anchor investor, aims to accelerate the development and commercial production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by financing mature projects across diverse technologies and regions.

The airline’s participation, whose financial amount was not disclosed, is intended to improve long‑term fuel‑supply security and reduce aviation emissions. Turkish Airlines officials said the investment will give the carrier closer access to SAF projects, feedstock development and technology partnerships, reinforcing its sustainability strategy and supply‑chain resilience.

SAFFA’s existing participants include major airlines, financial institutions and industry players such as Air France‑KLM, BNP Paribas, CMA CGM, Mitsubishi HC Capital, Qantas and Airbus, with total commitments of roughly $208 million. By joining the fund, Turkish Airlines positions itself alongside these partners to help expand SAF production capacity for the global aviation market.
