Turkish Airlines joins SAFFA sustainable fuel fund
Entities: Levent Konuk · Burnham Sterling Asset Management · Airbus · Turkish Airlines · SAFFA Fund
Overview
In July 2026 Turkish Airlines signed a contract to become a member of the SAFFA Fund I LP, an investment vehicle managed by Burnham Sterling Asset Management. The fund, launched in December 2023 with Airbus as an anchor investor, aggregates roughly $208 million in commitments from airlines, financial institutions and industry players such as Air France‑KLM, BNP Paribas, CMA CGM, Mitsubishi HC Capital, Qantas and Airbus. Its purpose is to finance mature‑technology projects that expand the production capacity of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across multiple pathways and regions.
Turkish Airlines’ participation, though undisclosed in monetary terms, is aimed at strengthening long‑term fuel‑supply security, reducing aviation emissions and advancing its sustainability strategy. The airline says the investment will diversify its fuel sources, give it closer access to SAF projects and technology partnerships, and help the sector meet carbon‑neutrality targets, addressing the current limited share of SAF caused by high production costs and constrained industrial capacity.
Chief Investment & Strategy Officer Levent Konuk emphasized that the partnership supports the carrier’s growth strategy, carbon‑reduction targets and supply‑security goals, while Burnham Sterling’s Michael Dickey‑Morgan highlighted the added scale and confidence the airline brings to the fund’s portfolio. The fund continues to target a portfolio of mature‑technology SAF projects across diverse technologies and geographies to accelerate global SAF capacity development.
