Turkish Airlines joins SAFFA Fund to boost sustainable aviation fuel supply

Turkish Airlines has become a member of the SAFFA Fund I, an international investment vehicle managed by Burnham Sterling Asset Management. The fund, launched in December 2023, brings together investors such as Air France‑KLM, Qantas, Airbus and other airline and financial institutions to finance projects that produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Turkish Airlines says the investment supports its growth strategy and sustainability goals by diversifying fuel sources, securing future SAF supply and helping lower carbon emissions from commercial aviation. The fund targets a portfolio of mature‑technology projects across different production pathways and geographic regions, aiming to expand global SAF capacity and enable the aviation sector to meet its carbon‑neutrality targets. SAF currently represents a small share of fuel use due to high production costs and limited industrial capacity, so the partnership is intended to accelerate market development.
