Turkey blocks 2,034 social media accounts over security concerns

Burhanettin Duran, the Director of Communications, announced that 2,034 social media accounts have been blocked in Turkey over the last two months. The crackdown was coordinated by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, in conjunction with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and the Cyber Crimes Department of the General Directorate of Security.

Of the blocked accounts, 699 were identified as being linked to FETÖ, which the government classifies as a terrorist organization. An additional 1,335 accounts were blocked for allegedly spreading disinformation, producing provocations, and conducting psychological operations against the country.

Duran emphasized that the state is mobilizing all its capabilities to combat digital propaganda and manipulation that targets national security and social unity. The measures were taken following technical analyses and digital network investigations to prevent organized activities by criminal and terrorist groups on digital platforms.
